Understanding the Dot Situation

  • Few overlapping shapes or figures are given, and one or more dots are marked in the figure.
  • Each figure represents people, objects, numbers having same characteristics .
  • We must identify the position or the region in which dots are marked.
  • For e.g., if a dot is put in the region which is common to circle and square (only) as shown in the figure, then we must identify a figure from the given options, which has some region common between circle and square (only) and at least some of its part doesn’t overlap with any other shape (set).
  • There will be no dots marked in the options. We are expected look for a figure from the given options, in which same situation is depicted.

Question 1)

Select a figure from options which represents the same situation as the figure given below.

Solution: Option B

  • Check Situation 1- In main fig there is one dot in the region common to circle and triangle only.

In all the options (a,b,c,d ) there is some region common to triangle and circle.

1st situation is satisfied by all the options.

  • Check Situation 2- In the main fig there is one dot in the region common to square and triangle only.

In options a, c and d there is no region common to triangle and square only .The regions that are common to triangle and square lie within the circle.

In option b there is some region which is common to triangle and square only  and doesn’t lie in the circle.

2nd situation is satisfied by option b only .

Option B satisfies both the situations.

Question 2)

Select the option which satisfies the same conditions of placement of dots as in figure below.

Solution: Option C

The dots are placed in a region common to

  • Triangle & Circle only – this region is present only in option C.
  • Rectangle & Circle only – this region is present in all the options.

Option C satisfies both the conditions.

Question 3)

Select the option with same dot situation

Solution: Option a)

The dots are placed in a region common to

  • Triangle & circle only- this region is present in option a) only.
  • Rectangle & circle only- this region is present in all the above options.

Option A satisfies both the conditions.
